Floating Lanterns

This work was created as an annual 'Social Sculpture' community event in memory of the late Reuven Alloro Cohen (1953-2009). Members of the Harduf community, grown-ups and chirldren alike, are invited to create colourful lanterns.

At nightfall these lanterns are floated on the lake at Samania Park, where the community's purified sewage water is collected. This is accompanied by collective singing. The symphonic harmony of these individually shaped light forms floating on transformed sewage water is a potent symbol of redemption.
